Dubai Mall Expands with New District
Dubai Mall, the world’s most visited shopping destination, has unveiled a new expansion called The District, further solidifying its status as a global retail and entertainment hub. Located near the iconic Dubai Ice Rink, the new area introduces 65 additional brand outlets and dining options, including trendy cafes, bakeries, and restaurants. Among the highlights are Drop and Joud Coffee cafes, Home Bakery Kitchen, and Klay by Karak House, a modern Arabic cuisine restaurant. Several of these establishments are already open to visitors during Ramadan.
With this expansion, Dubai Mall now boasts over 1,200 retail stores and boutiques, including flagship department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, as well as more than 200 cafes and restaurants. The mall’s popularity continues to soar, with over 111 million visitors recorded in 2024, surpassing the previous record of 105 million set in 2023.
In June 2024, Emaar Properties, the developer behind Dubai Mall, announced a AED 1.5 billion (US$ 400 million) expansion project for the iconic shopping and entertainment complex. This ambitious plan will add 240 new retail outlets, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes, further enhancing the mall’s appeal and diversifying its offerings. The expansion is expected to attract even more visitors and reinforce Dubai Mall’s position as a leader in global retail innovation and culture.
Since its opening in 2008, Dubai Mall has become a cornerstone of Dubai’s tourism and retail sectors. Spanning over 1.2 million square meters, it is one of the largest malls in the world. Beyond shopping, the mall is home to numerous attractions, including the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, the 24-screen Reel Cinema, KidZania Dubai, Play DXB, Dubai Ice Rink, Ekart, and the Zabeel sports zone.
