Dubai Sets World Record with $42,500 Cocktail Sale
Dubai, a city celebrated for its extravagant indulgences, has cemented its reputation as a global hub of luxury with the sale of the world’s most expensive cocktail for 156,000 UAE dirhams (approximately $42,500). The record-breaking drink, auctioned at a high-end Dubai restaurant, combined rare vintage ingredients, historic glassware, and the artistry of a renowned mixologist to create an unparalleled sensory experience.
The cocktail’s journey began with a spirited auction, where bidding for the drink started at 60,000 dirhams ($16,300) before soaring to its final price. Central to its allure was its composition: a custom tequila blend crafted exclusively for the event, paired with Kina Lillet, a discontinued aperitif from the 1950s famously used in James Bond’s iconic Vesper Martini. Only a handful of Kina Lillet bottles remain in existence today, making it a prized collector’s item. Further elevating the cocktail’s exclusivity were Angostura bitters dating back to the 1930s, adding a century-old depth to the flavor profile.
The drink was served in a pair of pristine Baccarat crystal glasses originally produced in 1937. These glasses, imported from Paris, had been preserved as museum pieces and never used until the auction. The buyer, whose identity remains undisclosed, took home the glasses as a souvenir, turning the ephemeral act of sipping a cocktail into a lasting investment in art and history.
Masterminding the creation was Salvatore “The Maestro” Calabrese, a celebrity bartender known for his lavish concoctions. Calabrese emphasized that the project was not merely about luxury but about storytelling. “The goal was to craft an unforgettable experience, a narrative in a glass that transcends time,” he said.
Not to be overshadowed, the same event unveiled the world’s most expensive non-alcoholic cocktail, priced at 12,000 dirhams ($3,270). The alcohol-free creation featured fresh cranberries, mint, pomegranate juice, Himalayan sea salt, and 24-karat edible gold flakes, served alongside gold-dusted hors d’oeuvres—a testament to Dubai’s flair for merging extravagance with innovation.
The record-setting sale highlights Dubai’s unrelenting pursuit of the extraordinary, where culinary and mixology feats routinely push boundaries. From gold-leaf desserts to diamond-infused beverages, the emirate continues to attract global attention by transforming everyday indulgences into symbols of status and artistry.
For the buyer, the cocktail represents more than a drink—it is a tangible piece of history and a conversation starter. As Dubai solidifies its role as a playground for the ultra-wealthy, events like this reinforce the city’s ethos: in a world of limitless possibilities, even the rarest treasures can find a home.
