Deira Clock Tower: A Dubai Landmark Recognized Among Global Beauties

The historic Clock Tower in Dubai’s Deira district has been named one of the most beautiful in the world, according to Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. She highlighted the tower’s significance as the first architectural symbol of Dubai in the early 1960s, built to commemorate the connection between the two shores of Dubai Creek—Deira and Bur Dubai.

Playing a pivotal role in the city’s transformation, the Clock Tower has become an enduring symbol of Dubai’s cultural and urban identity. British publication The Telegraph ranked it 17th in its list of the world’s most beautiful clock towers, further cementing its global recognition.

Constructed in 1963 and renovated in 1972, the tower has stood as a landmark for over 70 years, evoking nostalgia for longtime residents and serving as a reminder of Dubai’s humble beginnings before its rise as a modern metropolis.

In 2023, Dubai Municipality completed a major renovation of the roundabout surrounding the tower, investing 10 million dirhams into the project. The upgrades included the addition of a fountain, pedestrian crossings, and landscaped greenery, while carefully preserving the tower’s original design. The restoration ensures that this iconic structure continues to blend Dubai’s rich history with its contemporary urban landscape.
