Dubai Private Schools Face Overwhelming Demand as Waiting Lists Grow

Private schools across Dubai are experiencing unprecedented demand for student admissions, with many institutions reporting lengthy waiting lists as families continue relocating to the emirate in large numbers. The surge in applications has left some parents considering alternative options, including homeschooling, while they await available spots in their preferred schools.

Newly established institutions like Dubai British School Jumeira, which opened in August last year for children up to Year 6, have already reached full capacity and are now maintaining waiting lists for every grade level. Similarly, Dubai British School Mira, set to open in August 2025, has begun accepting early applications, with many grade levels already oversubscribed.

Leading school operators have noted a significant rise in enrollment requests, with some reporting a 25% increase in applications compared to the previous academic year. Taaleem, one of Dubai’s major education providers, confirmed a 9% growth in student numbers across its premium schools, bringing its total enrollment close to 17,000 pupils. GEMS Education, another key player in the sector, has also observed a steady annual increase of around 5%, attributing the trend to the continuous influx of expatriate families seeking high-quality education, particularly within the British curriculum framework.

Among the most sought-after schools are GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, Jumeirah College, and GEMS Wellington International School, all of which currently have waiting lists for nearly every year group.

Both GEMS and Taaleem advise parents to submit applications well in advance to secure placements, noting that priority is typically given to siblings of enrolled students, children of staff members, and UAE nationals. Families are encouraged to complete all required documentation promptly, pay registration fees on time, and maintain regular communication with schools to improve their chances of admission.

As Dubai’s population continues to grow, the pressure on school placements shows no signs of easing, highlighting the need for further expansion in the education sector to accommodate the rising demand.
