UAE Completes Landmark Global Food Aid Initiative
The United Arab Emirates has successfully concluded a historic three-year humanitarian mission that delivered over one billion food parcels to vulnerable populations across 65 countries worldwide. The initiative, launched during Ramadan 2022, was announced as complete by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed confirmed the project’s ambitious goal had been fully achieved and revealed plans for an even larger effort next year, targeting the distribution of 260 million additional food parcels. He emphasized the fundamental importance of charity within the UAE’s values and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to aid those in need globally. This latest mission builds upon the success of previous UAE campaigns that distributed 10 million and then 100 million food parcels.
Hailed as the largest program of its kind in the region, the initiative specifically focused on supporting vulnerable groups, including women and children. UAE officials highlighted its inclusive approach, providing aid without discrimination based on race, religion, or ethnicity.
UAE Minister Mohammed Al Gergawi attributed the initiative’s success to the collaborative efforts of the government and the generous contributions from Emirati citizens and organizations. He also underscored the critical role of international cooperation, particularly partnerships with the United Nations and regional bodies, in achieving the project’s objectives.
The aid program employed a multi-faceted strategy. This included direct food support through parcels, vouchers, and other essential supplies, alongside longer-term development projects aimed at boosting local agriculture and creating sustainable livelihoods. Major international partners such as the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) played key roles in facilitating the global delivery of food assistance.
