Etihad Arena to Host Pioneering Indoor Spartan Challenge
Abu Dhabi is set to make history this September by hosting the Middle East’s first-ever indoor Spartan City survival race. The groundbreaking sporting event will take place on September 20th at the iconic Etihad Arena, supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Designed for both beginners and seasoned athletes, the competition features a unique obstacle course embodying the Spartan motto “No day without movement.” Open to participants aged 14 and above, racers will tackle a challenging three-kilometer course featuring 15 signature Spartan obstacles.
Younger athletes aren’t left out: dedicated kids’ races include a 1km course for ages 4-6, 1.5km for 7-9 year-olds, and a full 3km challenge for those aged 9-14. A key innovation for the UAE’s climate is that the majority of the course will be air-conditioned indoors, offering respite from the region’s intense heat. Some sections will still venture outdoors.
This marks the first time the legendary Etihad Arena, typically home to global entertainment stars, will transform into a venue for a mass-participation sporting event of this nature. All participants who conquer the course and reach the finish line will receive commemorative Spartan merchandise: a race t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and the traditional Spartan banana. Registration for the event is currently open.
