Dubai Airport Installs World’s Largest Hearing Loop System
Dubai Airports has announced the completion of the world’s largest installation of Hearing Loop technology at Dubai International Airport (DXB). This innovative assistive listening system, comprising over 520 induction loops, is designed to make travel more accessible and inclusive for passengers with hearing impairments.
The system specifically aids travelers who use hearing aids or cochlear implants, allowing them to receive clear, direct audio transmissions without background noise. It represents a significant step in DXB’s ambitious goal to become the world’s most accessible and inclusive airport. The technology is integrated into key areas across all three terminals, including check-in counters, passport control, boarding gates, and information desks.
Connection is seamless and automatic for users. Travelers simply need to switch their hearing device to the T-coil (telecoil) setting; no additional equipment, configuration, or Bluetooth pairing is required. This provides immediate and clear access to important public announcements and one-on-one conversations at service points.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, stated that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring every guest can navigate the terminal easily and with confidence. He emphasized that the successful implementation was the result of a coordinated effort by the oneDXB community, which includes strategic partners and airlines, and brings the airport closer to its overall goal of making travel a more pleasant and accessible experience for everyone.
The project was realized in collaboration with numerous key entities, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Taxi, and Dubai Duty Free. This initiative aligns with the Dubai Universal Design Code, which mandates inclusive access to public spaces and transport infrastructure.
The installation was carried out with minimal disruption to daily airport operations. Furthermore, frontline staff have received specialized training to effectively support guests with hearing impairments and other special needs.
