Dubai Establishes New Committee to Become the ‘World’s Best City’
Dubai has launched a new high-level initiative, the ‘Civility Committee,’ with the ambitious goal of transforming the emirate into the world’s best, most beautiful, and most civilized city. The formation of the committee was announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. It was established under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The committee will be chaired by Mohammed Al Gergawi, with Mattar Al Tayer serving as Deputy Chairman. Its membership includes several other prominent officials. Its primary mandate is to eliminate anything that mars the city’s appearance and to enhance its aesthetics and global image in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The committee’s responsibilities are extensive and strategic. It will be tasked with identifying new urban challenges, developing actionable strategies, and setting policies that encourage practices to preserve Dubai’s visual appeal. This will involve a coordinated effort with the Higher Committee for Urban Planning to approve and implement plans, continuously assess results, and provide progress reports.
A key focus will be on systematically identifying unsightly elements in the urban environment and commissioning relevant departments to conduct surveys and prepare solutions. To ensure effectiveness, the committee will monitor the performance of all involved entities, establish key performance indicators, and measure resident satisfaction. It will also leverage advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, for the early detection and mitigation of negative trends. The committee will also determine necessary resources and budgets, creating sub-committees to overcome implementation challenges. This move builds upon Dubai’s recent achievement of being ranked first for cleanliness in the Global Power City Index for the fifth consecutive year.
