Dubai Courts launches civil marriage service for non-Muslims
Dubai courts are expecting a surge in demand for civil registration services for non-Muslim foreigners when the new family law comes into effect from February 1, 2023. Expats can get a marriage registration certificate within 24 hours.
To encourage foreigners to get married and inform them about the new service, Dubai Courts have launched an awareness campaign in foreign languages, inviting UAE residents to the “registry office”.
The number of marriages is expected to increase in the coming months. A similar prediction was made by the court department of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, which has opened its doors to foreign couples. It is worth noting that more than 5,000 expat couples in Abu Dhabi married last year at the court for non-Muslims.
The conditions for civil marriages for non-Muslim foreigners:
Spouses must be of legal age, the age verified by a national passport;
Both spouses must consent to the marriage before a judge and prove that there is no legal impediment to the marriage;
Marriage cannot be entered into between siblings or other close relatives.
