Dubai Health launches Yumnak to bring care closer to senior citizens
Getting to a medical appointment, receiving care at home and adapting a house to changing needs are closely connected parts of later life. Dubai Health’s new Yumnak initiative brings these services together, making support easier to access for senior citizens aged 60 and above in Dubai.
Launched at Emirates Towers, the initiative combines healthcare, social support, transport and housing assistance. It was developed through workshops with senior citizens, using their experiences and feedback to shape how services are delivered.
Its name reflects that purpose: Yumnak refers to the right hand in Arabic, symbolising help, support and companionship.
Healthcare that reaches people at home
Dubai Health’s contribution includes home visits by physicians, nursing care, dental services and physiotherapy, alongside delivery of medicines and medical supplies.
Eligible beneficiaries can also receive medical equipment and home nursing support through Almadallah Healthcare Management, with healthcare services regulated by the Dubai Health Authority.
The emphasis on home-based care recognises that access is about more than the availability of treatment. For older people, receiving appropriate support in familiar surroundings can be an important part of maintaining independence and everyday routines.
Connecting medical appointments with transport and housing
For patients with limited mobility, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services provides specially equipped transport and trained staff. The service connects electronically with medical appointment systems so journeys can be coordinated in advance.
Housing needs are addressed through assessments and home modifications by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment. Dubai Municipality contributes residential annex designs tailored to senior citizens.
Together, these elements extend the initiative’s focus beyond individual medical visits to the practical conditions that help people access care and live safely.
Social support for seniors living alone
The Community Development Authority connects beneficiaries with social services, including the Thukher Card, financial support for eligible caregivers and the Waleef home care programme.
Waleef supports senior Emiratis living alone through trained care staff and social workers. Its services encompass social support, rehabilitation, personal care and recreational activities, alongside coordination with healthcare and other service providers.
That broader approach recognises the importance of companionship, dignity and continued participation in community life. Care can involve helping someone remain connected and engaged, as well as responding to a specific health need.
Practical help for families and caregivers
A dedicated training programme gives family members and caregivers practical knowledge and guidance for supporting older people.
Yumnak also reflects the Dubai Social Agenda 33’s focus on family stability, proactive social care and quality of life. Its central purpose is to make connected support easier to navigate for senior citizens and those who care for them.
Beneficiaries can contact 800 588 to ask about available services, follow up on requests and book selected services.
