UAE Makes AI a Mandatory School Subject

The United Arab Emirates has become one of the first countries in the world to introduce artificial intelligence as a compulsory subject across all grade levels in public schools. Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, students from kindergarten through 12th grade will study AI as part of their regular curriculum.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the landmark decision via social media. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the nation’s long-term vision to equip future generations with critical skills for success in an increasingly digital world.

The comprehensive AI curriculum will focus on seven key areas: data and algorithms, software applications, AI ethics, real-world AI applications, AI-powered innovation and project development, AI policy, and social interaction with AI systems. Each module has been carefully designed to be age-appropriate and will be integrated into existing school schedules without requiring additional class hours.

To ensure smooth implementation, the Ministry of Education will provide teachers with extensive resources, including detailed lesson plans and activity templates. Education officials stated that this groundbreaking program will not only help students understand how AI works but also teach them to apply the technology effectively and ethically in various aspects of life.

This move reinforces the UAE’s position as a global leader in technological education and its commitment to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. The nationwide AI education initiative represents a significant step in the country’s efforts to build a knowledge-based economy and cultivate homegrown tech talent.
